Fire Guards
A fireplace is an architectural structure traditionally designed to contain a fire within a home for heating as well as cooking purposes. Over time fireplaces have become more common for the ambience they create within a room as well as being an attractive centre piece in any room. A fireplace is usually made up of the following components, a firebox of firepit used to contain the fire itself, a flue or chimney which allows exhaust to escape from the fire. As well as these components fireplaces can include the following a foundation, a hearth, a firebox, a mantel, an ashpan, a chimney crane, a grate, a grate bar, an overmantel, a chimney breast, a smoke chamber, a throat and a flue. There are two main types of fireplaces available today, Masonry fireplaces and Manufactured fireplaces. Masonry fireplaces are made from brick and stone, Manufactured fireplaces are made with sheet metal fireboxes. These fireplaces can be fuelled by wood, coal, and natural gas and propane fuel sources and must be sized properly to heat the required area.
There are many accessories available for in and around the fireplace, there are accessories used to help contain and maintain the fire, hold fuel safely and neatly beside the fireplace and to help ease the use of a traditional fireplace. These accessories are designed to be both practical in use and easy on the eye. These accessories are important when using a fire but the most important accessory on any fireplace is a Fire Guard.
Fire Guards which can also be known as fire screens are the most important accessory on your fireside. Fire Guards can be made from solid sheets of infused metal used to prevent burns on carpets, floors and rugs usually caused by spitting woods and coals from within the hearth. Fire Guards also help to prevent injury to children and pets by protecting them from harmful woods and coals. A Fire Guard positioned correctly will also deflect concentrated heat to allow better distribution throughout the room they are in.
The main function of a Fire Guard was to traditionally to provide warmth and comfort to the persons within the room in which they are placed and also to protect them from any harm that may be caused by an open fire. As well as their functionality they have become elegant pieces of furniture that can create an inviting and pleasant atmosphere on any fireplace. These pieces of furniture are available in traditional, oriental and modern styles that are available in both metal and glass designs. |
